Coronavirus (Covid-19) Update:

Throughout the pandemic our amazing staff continued to provide essential care services to older people and others in need. Although restrictions have now eased, our staff continue to use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment when with clients, and we continue to follow the latest guidance to keep everyone as safe as possible.

ASSIST CARING

This Home Care & Sitting service was established in 1997 to provide a respite service for carers in the Teignbridge area.

It is registered with the CQC and continues today to:
  • enable carers to take a much-needed break from their caring responsibilities
  • provide care and support for people who need assistance at home
  • provide companionship, enabling, escorting, personal support & care

Our staff are reliable, fully trained for the various tasks that they might undertake, and will treat you or your cared-for with dignity and respect. It is a 24 hour service; support is available in the daytime and overnight.

To enable a carer to have a break, we look after the cared-for person in their own home, or escort them out of the home for a social activity. We also provide practical help and personal care to individuals in need of assistance, helping them to continue living independently at home. Often people need short-term convalescent support after being in hospital or after having a fall.

We can offer information and support by phone, please call 01626 889288.

"Personal care" includes help with feeding and nail cutting, as well as more intimate assistance such as washing, dressing, & toileting. This is a regulated activity and, as a provider of these services, we are legally required to be registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC). The charity was inspected most recently in June 2018 when it was found to be meeting CQC National Standards and was given the overall rating "Good". The CQC's routine inspection programme was suspended in March 2020 due to the pandemic; using off-site monitoring since then, they have seen no reason to reassess their 2018 rating.

Our Statement of Purpose, which gives full details of our service and information for clients, can be accessed here. It will open in a new window.

Our fees are as follows:

£19 per day hour

and

£90 per Sleeping Night in attendance

(for 9 hours, usually 10pm to 7am)

and

£171 per Waking Night (10pm-7am)

Please note that we charge higher rates for sits on Bank & Public Holidays: day hours cost £30, sleeping nights cost £150, and waking nights cost £280. The higher night rates also apply for Xmas Eve and New Year's Eve.

Call Shirley on 01626 889288 to discuss your needs in confidence and find out how the service can help you

The office is manned Monday-Friday 9am-5pm although there may be times when staff are out of the office on visits, in which case please leave your name and number on our answerphone. We'll get back to you as soon as we can.

Support for Carers

The provisions of the Care Act 2014 which came into force on 1 April 2015 necessitated changes in the way that Devon County Council supports carers.

For information and advice on current initiatives and support available to carers, visit the

Devon Carers website (it will open in a new window)

or phone them on 08456 434 435.

Alternatively, telephone Care Direct on 0845 (or 0345) 155 1007.

Through collaboration with the Devon Digital Carers Project, we were able to host a free online library of health and care videos, a valuable resource for carers and individuals. That collaboration has now ended but access to the free Health and Care Video Library is still available here.

What our clients say ...

"There are 3 ways of doing a job: the right way, the wrong way, and your way - which is special. Thanks"

"Thank you very much for all the help that you and the ladies gave to mum - making it possible for mum to live at home and have as full a life as possible for many months"

Thank you so much for your invaluable support. Without you I'd have no social life at all and would feel adrift from my sons and their families

The system has been a godsend - not sure I could cope without it - lovely to get a break and know mum is safe AND happy

The service you provide is invaluable to me. It gives me the freedom and confidence to have a life outside the confines of the house and the constant stress of caring for someone with dementia. I don't know what I would have done without you

I see such a difference in my dad after the carer has visited. He's like a difference person (sic). It's so beneficial to him

Please Support our Charity!

We make a charge for some of our services, but in keeping these as low as possible we do still rely on grant aid and donations from our supporters. Click here to find out how to make a donation or otherwise help us financially.
